Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara expressed confidence that the coalition partners --JD(S) & Congress -- would win the by-elections in the two Assembly and three parliamentary constituencies.
He spoke to the media on his arrival at Sambra airport on Monday, to take part in the election campaign.
"We have joined hands to keep communal forces out; both at the center and state levels. We will be successful in this. The byelections will highlight the performance and strengthen the coalition government," he stated.
Parameshwara (who is also Home Minister), defended the move to make shirt and trousers mandatory uniform for women police personnel.
He paid tribute to the mortal remains of slain CRPF Jawan Umesh Helavar of Gokak, at the airport. Helwar was martyred following a granade attack by militants at Impal.
Helwar sacrificed his life to save others in his battalion. "The government will compensate the family. The district administration will look into the demand made by soldier's family, which has sought four acres of land," assured Parameshwara.
