ULB Polls: 30 suffer burns as miscreants spill chemical

As many as 30 people suffered burns as an acid-like chemical was spilt around during the victory march of one of the Congress candidates, Inayatullah Khan, following the Corporation election results.

However, all the injured are out of danger. They have suffered burns on the face, head, chest and back. The chemical fell on the eyelids of Abu and Wasim and there is no danger to his eyes, doctors said.

The incident occurred at around 1 pm, when the procession was passing through Barline Road in Pension Mohalla. Two of those in the procession opened bottles containing the chemical and spilt it around even as they were dancing.

Others in the crowd thought it was water and ignored it. They all rushed to the nearby primary health centre when it started burning.

District Superintendent of Police Divya Gopinath said they were working on clues and the culprits would be arrested after analysing CCTV footage.

Those injured said the act may be a handiwork of the supporters of the defeated candidates.
