The State government on Saturday transferred Mysore Deputy Commissioner P S Vastrad, who was in the thick of controversy for declaring government land as private property. He has been appointed as deputy commissioner of Chamarajanagar.

N Jayaram, serving as deputy commissioner, Chamarajanagar, has replaced Vastrad. There were allegations that Vastrad had succumbed to the real estate lobby and had directed the transfer of around 2,000 acres of government land at the Chamundi Hills to the name of Srikantadatta Narasimharaaja Wadiyar, scion of Mysore royal family and other respondents.

Allegations were levelled against him by BJP MLC G Madhusudan, following which Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister K S Eshwarappa ordered an inquiry.

Chief Secretary S V Ranganath, who inquired into the allegations, established that there was an irregularity in the matter. The government had not acted against Vastrad because of opposition from some BJP leaders. It was also felt that Vastrad should be transferred only after Dasara celebrations.
