CRPF soldier from Kamatagi ends life in Patna

Soldier Giriyappa Ramanna serving in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) committed suicide by shooting in his neck at the Military Guest House in Patna.

A native of Kamatagi village in Hungund taluk, Bagalkot district, Giriyappa had been serving for the last 8 years in 224 Batallion of the CRPF. Presently, he was appointed as one of the security staff to the residence of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Giriyappa was supposed to report to duty on Friday at 3 am. When he did not turn up, the security staff visited the guest house to check on him. It was then that the suicide came to light.

As soon as the news of his suicide broke, the family members of Giriyappa were inconsolable. His uncle Deviprasad Nimbalagundi recalled that Giriyappa was felicitated at the Kamatapura Utsava in February last year. Family members said that the mortal remains of the soldier will reach Goa through plane on Saturday morning and will reach Kamatagi by noon.
