Deve Gowda lambasts yoga guru

Last Updated 09 June 2011, 18:28 IST

The JD(S) supremo clarified he had never supported the agitation launched by Ramdev, but had only condemned the police action to evacuate him from Ramlila Grounds in Delhi.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Thursday, Gowda said even the violent movement organised by Subhashchandra Bose was not successful compared to the non-violent freedom struggle launched by Mahatma Gandhi.

People are disappointed due to the errors committed by the governments since independence and recent movement by the civil society is a cumulative effect of that. As democracy is deep rooted in India, no individual or caste or movement can destroy it, he said.

‘BSY is shrewd’

“Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa is shrewd enough to successfully suppress the inquiry launched into the corruption charges levelled against him,” Deve Gowda said.

When asked about Yeddyurappa’s statement about his (Gowda’s) alleged attempts to stop the flow of funds from the Union government to the State, Gowda declined to comment, and said, “I will reply if BJP leaders LK Advani or Sushma Swaraj make such statements.”

“The decision to boycott the Legislature session was taken by the party, as Assembly Speaker Bopaiah did not resign from his post though the Supreme Court had passed strictures against him. Only people can repair the state of politics here,” he added.

“To strengthen the party base, I will tour all districts in the State starting from June 17,” Gowda said.

“My struggle will continue till my last breath. I am not an anti-Lingayat, and people know that. A member of our party has approached the Lokayukta against inadequate implementation the work of rehabilitating flood-affected people in North Karnataka region,” Gowda added.

MLC Basavaraj Horatti, former minister P C Siddanagoudar, corporator Rajanna Koravi, and others were present.
