Bundh total in Chikmagalur

The schools, colleges, government offices remained closed throughout the day and vehicles remained off the roads making the bundh total. However people faced problems to meet their daily requirements as all commercial enterprises remained closed. There was absolutely no transport facilities available in the district on Monday. In wake of the bundh most of the schools and colleges had declared holiday. No untoward incidents occurred during the course of the bundh as police security were beefed up in the district.
BJP party workers took active part in the bundh by holding protests. They also spread awareness on the need for the bundh thereby calling people to participate in and support the bundh. The degree of participation by BJP members in the bundh left people surprised. However no flags of BJP was seen anywhere in the district. Private and KSRTC buses remained off road.

In Mudigere, outstanding response was witnessed at Banakal, Balur, Gonibeedu and Kasaba hoblis. Left party members along with progressive organisations and the JD(S) handed over memorandum to the Tahshildar demanding cut in price of fuel and essential commodities.

In Balehonnur all petty shops and huge enterprises remained closed from Monday morning itself. People were seen struggling to get vegetable, milk and other essential commodities. The private bus stand, main roads, markets which are otherwise centres of activities remained deserted throughout the day. Hirebail, Balehole, Samse in Kalasa received good response for bundh. While banks remained closed here, petrol bunk, couple of hotels, medical stores, Nada kacheri, post office remained open with adequate police personnel guarding the centres.

In NR Pura, JD(S) members met the Tahshildar and sent a memorandum to the Governor against petroleum price hike through the Tahshildar. JD(S) Taluk President M R Ravishankar said that the unscientific move of the Centre has thrown lives of common man out of gear. BJP members too staged a protest in Monday by taking out procession from NR Pura bus stand to Taluk office. Taluk President K P Sampath said that hike in fuel cost by the centre and bus fare hike by state government must be rolled back for the good of common man.

In Sringeri though the bunch received outstanding response the pinch of the bundh was specifically felt by the patients and their family members. JD(S), BSP and left party members burnt effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa despite the heavy rains in Sringeri within few hours of BJP’s protest.
