CM launches projects worth Rs 84 crore in Chikkaballapur

Hurried inauguration invites criticism from people

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar inaugurated works worth Rs 84 crore that included inauguration of various buildings and laying of foundation stone for several projects in Chikkaballapur and Gudibande taluks, here on Tuesday.

Through remote button, he unveiled the plaques for 32 projects.

Speaking at the programme, CM Shettar said “Chikkaballapur which has close proximity to the State capital will be ensured of all round development. Issue of basic facilities will be addressed and development works will be taken up in phases.”

Chikkaballapur being a border district has suffered in development. Along with it, basic facilities will be improved in Kolar and Tumkur districts to reduce the  burden on Bangalore, he added.

Recalling his visit to the district when he was the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, Shettar said “Efforts were made to implement the Permanent Drinking water project then. During S M Krishna government, as the Leader of the Opposition, had taken a delegation to New Delhi to exert pressure on the Central government to implement the project.”

Union Minister Veerappa Moily, Housing Minister V Somanna, legislators K P Bachegowda, V Muniyappa, N Sampangi and others were present. However, Shettar’s act — unveiling of 32 plaques through a remote button — has invited criticism from Legislator K P Bachegowda.

“As Chief Minister, it was Shettar’s first visit to the district. He was expected to go around the town and realise the issues that the people here are dealing with. Instead, he chose to inaugurate/lay foundation stone to various projects from the dais where he was sitting,” rued Bachegowda.

“Will present the budget”

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar reiterated that he will present the budget, focussing farmers and poor and downtrodden.

Speaking to reporters before participating in the programme in the city on Tuesday, Chief Minister Shettar said that his government will complete full term.
