Shifting jail

The process of shifting the jail which is situated near the bus stand to Ramanahalli is also moving in a faster pace. DIG (Prisons) P S Raju and PWD senior engineers have already inspected the land and have held talks with the district administration. The construction of jail building was moving in a snail’s pace so far. The work on the construction of jail building commenced in 1982 at an estimated cost of Rs 62 lakh. However, owing to the negligence of the government, the funds were never released. So far, four male prisoners’ barricade have been constructed. The work on women’s cell is pending. As the present jail is in deplorable condition, the officials have come to a conclusion that the jail must be shifted by December.
