Exclusive shops for 'Mysuru' products soon

If all goes well, tourists will get eponymous products of Mysuru under one roof near the Palace in the coming days. The district administration, on Friday, laid the foundation for a shopping complex, outside Varaha gate, the main gate of Amba Vilas Palace here.

Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, also executive officer of the Palace Board, told media: “The 20-shop complex is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore. Once the complex is completed, preference will be given for government and public enterprises with thrust on selling the products synonymous with Mysuru. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC), and railways will be given preference.”

Shikha said, as many as 80 traders had encroached upon the same area earlier and were selling substandard and duplicate products, besides charging exorbitant rates, according to complaints received from various quarters.

The traders were evicted and the new shopping complex is coming up on the same spot, with limited stalls. Nirmithi Kendra has been entrusted with the task of executing the works.

Earlier, MLA M K Somashekar laid the foundation for the shopping complex.
Parking lot

Following complaints of fleecing vehicle owners at the parking lot attached to the Palace, the Palace Board, on Friday, took over its management. Unlike the previous system, it is an electronically monitored on the lines of malls and airports, where entry and exit of vehicles will be recorded.

Henceforth, parking fees is on hourly basis - Rs 5 for bicycle, Rs 10 for two-wheeler, Rs 20 for car and tempo and Rs 60 for bus.
