Agricultural activities have gained momentum in the district, following the good spell rain in the district. Farmers in plain and semi-Malnad regions have transplanted onions, potatoes, tomatoes and chillies.

With comparatively better rain than the previous year, farmers in Kadur, Tarikere and Chikkamagaluru taluk, have transplanted vegetable crops in a larger area.

As on July 2, onion, tomato, chilly and potato crops have been transplanted in 7,801 hectares of land, as against the set target of 17,078 hectares.

Raitha Sangha district President M C Basavaraju said that some crops have to be transplanted again as the crops transplanted earlier did not sprout due to excess humidity.

A M Prashant, a farmer from Anuvanahalli said that as the rain has been good this year, onions are expected to yield good profit.

Another farmer Siddegowda said that the farmers have to take enough care in protecting the crops from diseases.

Horticulture department Deputy Director Poornima said that the average rate of transplantation has been higher than normal and 100% achievement in transplantation is expected.
