<p>Opposing the government move to reduce the quantity of rice supplied under Anna Bhagya scheme and increase electricity fare, the Udupi Zilla Nagarika Samithi staged a protest by pulling a bullock cart in Udupi on Tuesday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The protest that began from Diana Circle passed through KM Road, service bus stand, Triveni Circle and culminated at Chittaranjan Circle.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Instead of an ox, the people only pulled the cart. The participants also used cycle in the procession.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Samithi General Secretary Nityananda Olakadu carried a bag of rice and beat a hand drum (tamate) throughout the procession.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He said that the state government has neglected coastal districts in the budget and has also reduced the quantity of rice supplied to the poor under the Anna Bhagya scheme.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The excise duty on petrol and diesel has been hiked, which will affect the common man, he said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He said the hike in electricity rate has also affected the common man.</p>
