Insurance for kharif crops in Kolar

Under the scheme, farmers will be indemnified for crop loss sustained on account of natural calamities such as thunder showers, flood, landslip and hurricane.

The benefit of the scheme is available for specified crops in specific hoblis. The benefit is available for rain-dependent and irrigated paddy, rain-dependent ragi and groundnut in all hoblis of the taluk for kharif season. The insurance is available for rain-dependent tur only in Kyasamballi hobli.

Rain-dependent ragi is covered in all hoblis of Kolar taluk, irrigated ragi in Huttur, Kolar and Vemagal hoblis, rain-dependent groundnut and paddy in Vemagal hobli.

All the hoblis in Malur taluk are covered under the insurance for rain-dependent ragi. Except Tekal hobli, the benefit is available for rain-dependent tur, groundnut in Masti hobli, ragi in all hoblis of Mulbagal and Srinivaspur hoblis.

10 per cent rebate

The insurance is mandatory for farmers who have availed crop loans. Other farmers should pay the premium by opening a bank account in respective service areas.

Small and marginal farmers are entitled to 10 per cent rebate on premium. For irrgated crops like paddy, the sum issured per hectare is Rs 27,400 and the premium amount is Rs 685; for ragi the sum insured amount per hectare is Rs 18,700 and the premium amount to be paid is Rs 468.

July 31 is the last date for submitting application for rain-dependent paddy and August 31 for rest of the crops.

The information on crops loss must be communicated to Agricultural Insurance Company of India within 48 hours, according to a press release from the Agriculture Department.
