Legislator promises funds for Kolar farmers

Last Updated 13 June 2009, 17:24 IST

He was speaking after launching the huge tank construction work under the Yaragol scheme, which is aimed at supplying drinking water to Kolar, Bangarpet and Malur.
The Yaragol scheme which was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy in 2007 was not properly planned, alleged MLA Varthur Prakash.

Before the scheme could take to a proper shape, Kumaraswamy inaugurated the Yaragol scheme in September 2007.

By that time, nothing was decided including the number of dams to be built, the location of the dams, the estimate for constructing the dams and so on, he said.

However, it was unfortunate that some of the officials spread rumours that the dams could not be constructed, he stated adding that it was only after he became the president of Karnataka Water supply and Sewerage Board, the scheme gained momentum. “I held a discussion with the officials and chalked out a plan”, he added.

‘We are one!’

Extending his clarifications to the objections raised by some CMC members about not inviting MP K H Muniyappa for an inauguration programme, MLA Varthur Prakash said: “Both Muniyappa and I are one. I am not undertaking any works in the region without his approval.”

Dismissing the arguments raised by CMC members Salaluddin Babu, Prakash Babu and others, he remarked that the members did not understand the relationship the two shared.

“If not for him, I would not have been a legislator. Therefore there is no question of leaving him behind while undertaking developmental projects in the region,” he said.
