<p class="bodytext">As rain fury continues, a massive landslide has occurred on Balehonnur-Jayapura State Highway on Thursday night.</p>.<p class="bodytext">A side portion of Balehonnur-Jayapura road has caved in, creating a 60 feet deep trench. The movement of heavy vehicles is likely to be prohibited on the road. If the landslide continues, connectivity between Koppa and Sringeri will get affected.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Chikkamagaluru PWD Executive Engineer Anandamurthy said that warning signs have been put up on the road as a precautionary measure.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The Executive Engineer directed the official concerned to deploy a security guard to alert the vehicle drivers, near <br />the spot where landslide occurred.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He further said that a team of officials have inspected the spot at Bababudengiri where landslide has occurred. The work of clearing the debris is being carried out on war-footing. Another landslide has occurred in Kottigehara-Hirebail.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“A loss of Rs 6 crore has been estimated in the district, due to heavy rains. A report on the estimated loss has been submitted to the DC, for further actions,” he added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">PWD (Koppa) Assistant Engineer Nagaraj was present.</p>
