The District Principal and Sessions Judge, K S Mudagal flagged off a mobile court cum legal aid vehicle at the Court Complex premises, in Mysore, on Monday.

The mobile court will travel to various parts of the district from August 18 to September 7, will provide free legal aid and encourage aggrieved parties to settle their cases by reaching a compromise.

Persons who have sought legal aid at District Legal Services Authority will be offered free legal aid. “If cases can be settled by reaching a compromise, we will take it up at during Lok Adalat and will dispose them,” said Dinesh Hegde,  Senior Civil Judge and member secretary of Mysore District Legal Services Authority.

Apart from it, road accident cases, property disputes and land acquisition cases could also be taken up in the mobile court. In taluk centres, cases of individuals who have applied at Taluk Legal Services Committees will be considered, he said.

The Mobile court of the Karnataka Legal Services Authority (KLSA), will consist of a judge and conciliator.

While Senior Civil Judge of the district will hold hearings if necessary, conciliators will be appointed on a rotation basis, he said.

He said that the number of cases that could be taken up depended on the pendency of cases. Response to the mobile court cum legal aid vehicle has been very encouraging in the previous years, he added.

Handbook

K S Mudagal speaking after the flag off, said that a handbook ‘Janasamanyarige Kanoonu’ (Law for laymen) will be distributed during the visit of the mobile court to various parts of the district. “The booklet will provide information on dealing with disputes legally, steps required to be taken before filing cases and other basics,” she said.

She said that the guidelines of KLSA required the organisation to provide free legal aid to persons, who cannot afford lawyers.

She said that such vehicles were necessary as legal services were not reaching the remote villages of the country.

H V S Murthy, president of Mysore Bar Association, said that the mobile court will provide more importance to the cases pertaining to women, children and people who can’t afford legal services. “Objective of the mobile court is to empower such persons legally,” he said.

Schedule

Sittings of the mobile court will held in the taluk court complexes. The vehicle will be in Mysore city from August 18 to 20, Nanjangud from August 21 to 23, T Narsipur from August 24 to 26, K R Nagar from August 27 to 29, H D Kote from August 30 to September 1, Hunsur from August 2 to 4 and Periyapatna from August 5 to 7.
