Following a report by the Commissioner of Police, Mysuru and Superintendent of Police, Mysuru district, the district administration has imposed prohibitory orders against the participation of Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) leader, Praveen Togadia in Virat Hindu Samajothsava, in Mysuru, on March 11.

In an order issued by Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, prohibitory orders under section 144(3) of Criminal Procedure Code are in place against Togadia from March 9 to 13. During the said period, he will be barred from entering into the limits of Mysuru district.

“Further, I prohibit playing of any kind of video and audio CD/Tape of Dr Praveen Bhai Togad during the above period in the entire Mysuru district,” the order read.

Provocative speech

The order, quoted a report of the Commissioner of Police, who reported: “Provocative and inflammatory speeches of Dr Praveen Bhai Togadia towards which he is habitually and ideologically inclined, would have sufficiently grave consequences and there is every likelihood of breach of peace, danger to human life and disturbance of the public tranquility and communal harmony in Mysuru city.”

Despite a heterogenous cosmopolitan culture and mixed demography, Mysuru district is communally sensitive. In the year 2009, 67 cases have been registered in Udayagiri Police Station limits, which are related to communal incidents. As a result, Mysuru district is being considered as communally sensitive, the police report said.

Preparations

Meanwhile, preparations taken up by VHP ahead of the Samajothsava at Doodakere Maidan, opposite Amba Vilas Palace, are at full swing.

As a precautionary measure, district administration has prohibited the sale of liquor in Mysuru city limits on March 11.

Hassan

Though the district administration has banned Togadia from participating in the Virat Hindu Samajothsava to be held in Hassan on Tuesday, people will have the opportunity to listen to and discuss his speech, said Welcome Committee President Chetan Narayana.

According to Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Togadia was supposed to participate in the event, to be held at the Hassan Government Boys High School grounds at 11 am on Tuesday.

Following this, the district administration had issued an order banning his entry into the district.
Condemning the district administration during a press conference in Hassan, on Monday, Chetan Narayan said that by banning the entry of Togadia to the district, the administration had violated the constitution.

"The VHP has approached the High Court in this regard and if it is possible to get a stay order against the district administration, Togadia will visit the district and people will have the opportunity to listen to his speech," he said. But, Chetan did not provide any information on the plans being made for this, or how his speech would be made possible to reach the listeners.

Shoba yatre

A Shoba Yatre will be held from Hasanamba Kalakshetra at 9 am, and more than 6,000 people are expected to take part in the march. The Yatre will reach the high school grounds at 10.45 am, where the convention is being held. Seers of all the mutts will participate, he said.

The motorbike rally and other activities have evoked a good response and the number of people attending the convention is expected to rise, Chetan said.

More than 40,000 people are expected to attend the programme, he added.
