In a bid to ensure an unique identity for Mysuru, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to turn it into an Ivory City, where all major buildings will be painted in ivory colour.

Presenting the budget, Standing Committee on Taxation, Finance and Appeals Chairperson Haseena Taj said a decision in this regard was taken in the council meeting held in December 2014, which will be implemented during the current fiscal.

Under the scheme, all buildings of the MCC will be painted with ivory colour. Other government buildings and private properties will be requested to apply ivory paint, she said.

Further, the projects to be taken up this year include construction of drinking water units in all wards of MCC. The units will also come up near popular tourist destinations. Rs 6.5 crore has been set aside for the purpose.

Under Mayor Road Project, five major roads in the city will be developed at a cost of Rs one crore each, she said. Rs 15 crore has been set aside for development of parks, of which Rs 5 crore will be spent to develop five major parks in the city.

MCC also has plans to set up a brick production unit, where bricks will be made using construction debris. Construction debris is spoiling the beauty of the city, she said and added that the unit will come up in association with private entrepreneurs.

In the budget, Rs 7 crore has been set aside for the construction of offices for Zone-1, 3, 5 and 8 of the MCC, Mayura Complex at Ashoka Circle and restrooms for pourakarmikas.
