The three-day 67th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress will be held at JSS University, Sri Shivarathreeshwara Nagar, in the city from December 19.

Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor of JSS University Dr B Suresh, who is also the chairman of the local organising committee of the conference, said the congress is organised by Indian Hospital Pharmacists’ Association on the theme ‘Pharmacist for a Healthy India’ (Swaths Bharat).

As many as 10,000 delegates - a mix of scientists, entrepreneurs and others -  are expected from across the world. Most importantly, 2,000 delegates will be exclusively from pharma industries, for whom the meet may be another reason to explore investment opportunities in Mysuru. They include representatives of Sun Pharma, Ranbaxy and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories to name a few. Besides, those involved in pharmacy education may be inclined towards setting up base here, already an education hub, Dr Suresh said.

For the benefit of students, an interaction session with second generation entrepreneurs is also planned. In addition to this, 30 to 40 drug controllers from across the country are expected to attend the conference.

State Drug Controller Raghuram Bhandari said, “It is an one-time opportunity to attract investors and a buyer-seller meet has been organised during the conference.”

University Registrar Mruthyunjaya P Kulenur spoke on arrangements and Raghunandan from the administrative wing informed about the motive behind organising the meet in the city.
