Last Updated 19 November 2015, 18:51 IST

Shivakumar, the forest watcher who suffered injuries in a tiger attack, is being treated at JSS Hospital in the city.

Doctors attending on him told Deccan Herald that “Shivakumar has suffered severe bruises on his head, besides scratches and cuts on his right leg. With blood oozing out from his head, the doctors were finding it difficult to stop the same.”

Shivakumar, who seemed to be in a state of concussion, didn’t utter a word when this reporter made repeated attempts to speak to him.

Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF), Bandipur, A T Poovaiah, who was present at the hospital, said “All of a sudden, the tiger pounced on Shivakumar. Luckily, sharpshooter Sushil Kumar, who was nearby, swung into action and opened fire on the big cat killing it on the spot.”

Mahadevu, who was also part of the operation and witness to the tiger attack, said “The tiger was very ferocious. It attacked Shivakumar in front of 30 members.”

Soon after the incident, Shivakumar was rushed to Begur (in Gundlupet) in a forest department’s jeep, before being shifted in an ambulance to Mysuru.

Quoting a doctor, who preferred anonymity, Poovaiah said “Shivakumar is out of danger and will recover soon.” He will be taken to MRI Scan later.
