As many as 38 passengers took the last flight to Bangalore from Mysore Airport at Mandakalli on Saturday. With this, SpiceJet withdrew its service from Mysore Airport for a period of one year from October 26, 2014 to October 24, 2015.

Sources told Deccan Herald, while 33 passengers arrived in the flight at 1 pm, 38 passengers departed towards Bangalore at 2.15 pm. It included some of the regular flyers.

Thrice a week

SpiceJet had been operating direct flight between Mysore and Chennai via Bangalore thrice in a week -- Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. While the service between Mysore and Bangalore has been withdrawn, the connectivity between Bangalore and Chennai stands.

Authorities at SpiceJet who had been withdrawing and resuming the services of late making last minute cancellations, eventually, on October 12 informed the Director of Mysore Airport C Manjunath about the withdrawal of service for one year.

Second entrant

SpiceJet had launched the service a year ago on January 14, 2013, resuming the air connectivity between Mysore and Bangalore, after Kingfisher called off the service in the fag end of 2012.

Low passenger turn out, and lack of political will to find a permanent solution to the problem, are said to be the reasons behind the withdrawal of service.
