Dy CM for panel to evaluate syndicate members

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara has urged Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda to form an expert committee for the appointment of Syndicate members to the state universities. In a letter addressed to Devegowda, Parameshwara has raised concerns over the substandard quality in higher education institutions and the dip in their national rankings.

“It is essential to form a committee of experts to assess the educational background and expertise of candidates, and also to ascertain whether the candidates meet the criteria prescribed in the Karnataka State Universities Act, before appointing them,” Parameshwara wrote.

By appointing an expert committee, the government will be able to appoint VCs and Syndicate members based on their qualifications and in a transparent manner, he added.
