EC to offer transport facility for disabled

For the first time in the country, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Karnataka, upon the directions by the Election Commission of India (ECI), will provide pick-up and drop facilities to people with disabilities and senior citizens for the byelections scheduled for November 3.

According to the CEO, this is a step towards an accessible and inclusive elections. The facility can be utilised by accessing the Chunavana Mobile Application (on Playstore) and booking a slot at the ‘Pickup Service Facility’.

Applicants have to enter their EPIC number, mobile number and address, following which they will get a confirmation call. Bookings, which will be open till the midnight of November 1, can be made under two slots — forenoon (10 am to 12 noon) and afternoon (12 noon to 3 pm).

District administrations will arrange the specially allocated election duty vehicle and volunteer. Wheelchairs will be arranged at respective polling stations. They can also be booked through the app and the CEO Karnataka website and also through the Karnataka Election Information System.

Bypolls are being held to three Lok Sabha constituencies — Bellary, Shimoga and Mandya and two Assembly constituencies — Jamkhandi and Ramanagara.
