Ensure victory of Congress in ULB polls: Rao

Last Updated 16 December 2018, 19:27 IST

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao called upon party workers to ensure the victory of Congress candidates in the urban local body elections.

Addressing party workers in the city on Friday he said, the ULB elections have a triangular fight and Congressmen should work unitedly to ensure the victory of the party candidates.

Rao said that the election will have an impact on the state politics and the local leaders should ensure the victory of the Congress candidates in the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) election. He assured suitable positions to the aspirants who have missed the party tickets.

Slamming BJP leaders, Rao said the Congress is in favour of backward classes, Dalits, women and farmers. “But, the BJP is against social justice and deprived classes. Dalits and minority community people could become presidents of Gram Panchayats and Zilla Panchayats only because of the Congress. BJP is indulging in communal politics and has divided the people. The BJP has divided Billavas and Besta communities in Dakshina Kananda district,” he alleged. “The Congress government, led by former chief minister Siddaramaiah, introduced several pro-people programmes and successfully completed a full term. Due to caste politics and other issues, the Congress failed to get a majority in the 2018-Assembly elections,” he said.

Former MLA Vasu said that after Wadiyars, it is the Congress party which has contributed immensely towards the development of Mysuru. “We should spread this message among people between the age group of 18 and 40 years,” he said.

Vasu said that the MCC election is important and many corporators have been elected to the Assembly and have also served as ministers. MLA Tanveer Sait said that though there were differences while issuing ‘B’ forms, the party workers should ensure the party’s victory. MLAs Dr Yatheendra Siddaramaiah and Anil Chikkamadu, former MLA M K Somashekar and MLC R Dharmasena were present.
