Five arrested in Tumkur carnage

The accused, Nagesh (25), Mathava Thimmaiah (75), his sons Chandrashkhara and Basavaraj (both around 40) and Shivanna (50), brother of Thimmaiah were arrested last night, Superintendent of Police P S Harsha told PTI.

All the five were produced before a local court today and remanded to five days police custody, he said.

Nagesh is the son of one of the deceased, Krishnappa, a member of the family that was charred to death in the incident, Harsha said.

In the carnage that took place on February 19, Junjamma (78), her daughter and former JD(U) member of Godekare gram panchayat, Shivamma (45), son-in-law Krishnappa (58) and their grand children Jeevant (4) and Gurumurthy were (2) burnt to death.

Family dispute over land was stated to be the motive behind the gruesome incident.
