Five of family die in road accident

Five members of a family were killed in a road accident at Chikkadanavandi near Ayanur in the taluk on Tuesday evening.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Mangala (55), her son Manjunath (30), employed at a private company in Bengaluru, daughter Usha (35), son-in-law Neelakantha (37), an engineer with Mescom at Birur in Chikkamagaluru district and grand-son Nandeesh (9).

Another four-year-old baby girl sustained injuries in the incident and she is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in the city.

It is said that they were heading towards Kumsi to take part in the farewell ceremony for Chandrappa, assistant executive engineer, husband of Mangala, on his retirement.

The incident took place when tyre of the car in which they were travelling burst and Manjunath, who was driving the car lost the balance and rammed the vehicle into the lorry coming from Sagar. Chandrappa, a resident and native of Holehonnur, Bhadravathi taluk and he was serving at Kumsi as an assistant executive engineer. Kumsi police have registered a case.
