Four of a family die as car catches fire

Four members of a family were killed, when the car they were travelling by burst into flames after hitting the public toilet building, near Udayapura, on NH 75, in the taluk on Thursday morning.

The deceased, all residents of Bengaluru, have been identified as Naik (38), Regional Manager of a private company at Chikkabanavara, his wife Reshma Naik (38), daughter Vinanthi (10)
and son Vignesh (4).

As the speeding car crashed into the building, the vehicle burst into flames due to the impact. While Vivek, Reshma, and Vinanthi were charred to death in the vehicle, police, who rushed to the spot found Vignesh, sitting in the back seat, alive. They rescued him by breaking the glass. However, Vignesh, who suffered severe burns, breathed his last on the way to the hospital.

The car was mangled beyond recognition due to the impact. The door of the car had to be cut open to retrieve the charred bodies.

The family was travelling to Nayakavadi in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district, to attend the first death anniversary of Vivek’s father.
