Giant boulders being cleared at rain-hit Jodupala

The clearing of boulders blocking the highway at Jodupala was taken up on a war footing, by the district administration on Tuesday.

Speaking to DH, Puttur Assistant Commissioner Krishnamurthy said that rescue operations were briefly halted to focus on clearing the highway for traffic.

However, the search for two more bodies feared washed away in flash floods at Jodupala on Friday, is still on.

Three earthmovers have been pressed into service to remove huge boulders blocking the road. Several landslides in the area had resulted in boulders blocking both roads and train tracks.

The district administration has taken up the work of laying pipes to the newly formed stream at Jodupala, with the intention of diverting and draining away the water from the highway.
