HC respite for contract workers of HIMS

The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday quashed the state government order cancelling the appointment of 307 non-teaching staff of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS).

The court also directed the government to reconsider the awarding of grace marks to contract employees after
following the due procedure of notifying them and hearing them individually and
then passing an appropriate order.

H N Honnegowda and over 150 non-teaching employees of the Institute had moved the court challenging the state government’s order cancelling their appointments.

The court, in the order passed on Wednesday stated that the government had not followed the cadre and recruitment rule and the order of appointment cancellation has not been passed by a competent authority and hence it needs to be quashed.
