Heavy rain in Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu

Heavy rain lashed parts of Mudigere taluk in Chikkamagaluru district while Kodagu district received widespread rain on Monday.

Heavy rain coupled with lightning and thunder lashed Balooru, Banakal, Kottigehara, Binnadi, B Hosalli, Mathikatte, Heggudlu while Mudigere, Makonahalli, Gonibeedu, and Devarunda  in Chikkamagaluru district experienced drizzle.

A huge tree uprooted on Banakal-Heggudlu Road disrupting movement of vehicles. Road were waterlogged as rainwater overflowed from clogged drains.

Copious rain lashed across Kodagu district towards Monday evening. Somwarpet, Suntikoppa, Shanivarasanthe and Kodlipete experienced hailstones along with rain.

There were reports of drizzling on the outskirts of Hubballi. Strong winds and heavy rainfall early on Monday morning created havoc in parts of Tumakuru district.

Numerous trees and electric poles were felled by the rain in Tumakuru and rural areas.

A short circuit in the KPTCL grid near Antarasanahalli caused fluctuations in power supply to parts of Tumakuru city the entire day.

In Koratagere taluk, gusty winds blew off the roofs of more than 80 houses, while a shower of hailstones caused damages to some more houses. 

Man killed
Hanumantha Reddy (55), a native of Baichapura village of the taluk died when his farm house collapsed in the middle of the night on Sunday.

Three cows belonging to Reddy which were also in the house were seriously injured. The neighbours pulled out Reddy and the cows on Monday morning.

Ten trees and two electric poles were damaged due to the downpour that lashed Mysuru in the wee hours on Monday. Rainwater gushed into the premises of Vijaya Bank in Kuvempu Nagar.

Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, which commenced at 2.30 am, lashed for more than an hour.

Several vehicles and houses were damaged as gusty winds brought down huge trees. However, no casualty has been reported.

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Rapid Action Team ‘Abhaya’, took up rescue operation.
 
There were reports of  rain from Nanjangud and Hunsur taluks. Similarly, parts of
Hassan district received good rains.
