I-Day Lalbagh flower show open for public

Honouring the valiance of the Indian Armed Forces, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday inaugurated the 208th annual flower show dedicated to the martyrs of Armed Forces at Lalbagh Botanical Gardens in Bengaluru. The flower show will enthral visitors and tourists till August 15.

Inaugurating the show Kumaraswamy said, "This time we are paying floral tributes to our martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for our safety. All of Lalbagh is decked to welcome people from across the country. The picture of our Armed Forces is on display at Lalbagh."

Known to choose a variety of themes every year, the Horticulture Department and the Mysuru Horticulture Society have chosen to dedicate this year's Independence Day Flower Show to the soldiers and celebrate the 85th anniversary of the Kannada film industry.

Floral replicas of a battle tank, fighter jets, missiles, warships are on display as part of the flower show. More than 1.5 lakh Dutch roses have been used to recreate some of the models. Unique flowers from Ooty, Pune and other places have also been sourced.
