229-km roads to be repaired in Kodagu soon

With the released money, 229 km road will be repaired in the district. About 33 main roads in the district will be developed at a cost of Rs 16.55 crore.

The remaining Rs 13.45 crore will be utilised for taking up work on 12 State Highway roads.  The funds have already been released to the PWD and the tender will be invited shortly to take up the work, said sources.

The State government has directed the PWD to complete the work by March 31.
About 53 km main road and 79 km State Highway roads in Madikeri Assembly constituency will be developed. Similalrly, in Virajpet Assembly constituency 80 km main roads and 17 km State Highway will be developed.

The officials said, before starting the work, there is a need to fill the potholes. As per the Chief Minister’s direction, potholes will be filled by December end.

“The materials needed for road work, including gravel are not easily available in the district. Hence, there has been delay in starting the work. A gravel unit has been started in Kushalnagar recently. Third unit will also be opened shortly. If all the gravel units start functioning, then the road work can be taken up at the earliest,” said a senior official.

“Our aim is to repair 200 km road in 2011-12. The State government has released funds accordingly. The new sand mining policy will come into force from this week. With this, there would be no shortage of sand,” said the official.

The roads which will be developed are Moorandu-Napoklu—4 km (Rs 50 lakh),Bettageri-Nalkunadu—4 km (Rs 50 lakh), Moornadu-Kumbaladalu—4km (Rs 40 lakh), Ammathi-Moornadu—3.40 km (Rs 50 lakh), Madikeri-Abbeyfalls—3.5 km (100 lakh), Madikeri-Bhagamandala—5 km (Rs 70 lakh), Bhagamandala-Karike—5 km (Rs 50 lakh), Siddapura—Palibetta—3 km (Rs 40 lakh), Siddapura—Mysore—3.5 km (Rs 70 lakh), Kanoor-Kembukolli—5 km (Rs 60 lakh), Channagolli-Balale—7 km (Rs 80 lakh), Madapura-Soolabbi-Shanthalli—9 km (Rs 120 lakh), T Shettigeri—Marenadu—7.20 km (50 lakh) and Bittangala-Kootiyala—6 km (Rs 50 lakh). The State Highway roads to be developed are—Virajpet-Baindur—48.25 km (Rs 670 lakh), Madikeri-Kutta—4 km (Rs 50 lakh), Konanoor-Makutta —10.60 km (Rs 190 lakh), Hiresave-Chattalli—13.70 km (Rs 95 lakh), Ponnampete-Gonikoppa—5 km (Rs 80 lakh), Madikeri-Kutta—7.40 km (Rs 180 lakh) and Hunasooru-Talacauvery— 4.80 km (Rs 50 lakh).
