After a two day holiday, banks in the city re-opened to huge rush of customers on Saturday.

With Sunday (May 4) being a holiday again, customers thronged banks in the city till the last minute. Customers were seen waiting at State Bank of India (Kuvempunagar branch) much before the staff had arrived.

Similarly, at another branch of the same bank behind Hotel Shantisagar Complex, the serpentine queue had reached the main road.

Lead Bank Manager, K S Shivalingaiah said that the huge rush was expected after the banks were closed for two days due to May Day and Basava Jayanthi, on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

The staff was asked to cater to the customers even after working hours, depending upon the number of customers present inside the bank within the closing time.

For example, if the banks were scheduled to close at 1 pm, they had to give preference to the customers who arrived before the closing hours.

In Mysore there are a total of 430 nationalised banks, with 290 located in Mysore city alone.

In the case of ATMs too, adequate care was taken to fill the chest (cash container) ahead of the holidays.

In view of Sunday (May 3), the ATMs will be reloaded depending upon the necessity.

Among 390 ATM kiosks in the district, over 200 are located in the city, followed by the taluk headquarters.
