At one mall, plastic rolls were used to weigh vegetable and other items -- below 40 micron thickness which is the  banned quality -- was found in huge quantities worth over Rs one lakh.

However, they had switched over to  carry bags of good quality. But, it didn’t stop them from coughing up a penalty of Rs 10,000 for still possessing the low quality plastic.

Another raid

At another mall, banned plastic was found in small quantity and hence a penalty of Rs five thousand was imposed on them.On Thursday too, the officers team swooped on close to 200 shops on D Devaraja Urs Road alone.

Apart from looking for the prohibited material, that has been going on unabated despite the order, the city corporation is also creating awareness among the traders.

The drive since Monday last under the leadership of In-charge Health Officer Sudha has inspected factories, retailers and wholesale dealers.

One of the five factories where plastic was confiscated in large quantity recently, has been served a notice to suspend the business, according to an order issued by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) Mysore regional office.

MCC Environmental Engineers Girijamma, Rekha, Shafinaz and Tejaswini and health inspectors were part of the drive.
