Burglars strike at Commercial Tax officer's house in Mysuru

Flee with gold jewellery weighing 400 grams

Close on the heels of a house burglary that was reported from Bannimantap in the city, burglars have struck at a house belonging to a commercial tax officer at V V Mohalla on Thursday night.

The burglars have made away with gold ornaments weighing 400 grams and other valuables after tying two elderly women with ropes and rendering them unconscious. The house belongs to R Sridhar, who is serving as Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax in Athani.

According to the police, two elderly women Anasuyammma, mother of Sridhar, and his mother-in-law Vimalamma, were staying in the house while the other family members were out on a trip. The miscreants, who gained entry into the house from the rear door, used chemical spray to make the women unconscious.

They tied the legs and arms of the women before looting the house. Sources said, the thieves made away with the earrings, bangles and other ornaments of the women and ransacked the almirah in search of valuables.

When Anusayamma woke up at 4.30 am, she found her hands and legs tied and Vimalamma lying unconscious next to her. Later, Anusayamma managed to untie and alerted her neighbour, who informed the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) crime and traffic Rudramuni visited the spot. A team of forensic experts, dog squad was pressed into action.
