Delay in rehabilitation works irks MLA, MP

Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya speaks at the Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Madikeri on Friday.

The delay in the commencement of rehabilitation works for the flood victims in Kodagu district was discussed in length at the Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting chaired by MP Prathap Simha on Friday.

In the meeting, MLA M P Appacchu Ranjan and Disha Committee member Manu Muthappa expressed their displeasure at the state government for delaying the work.

Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya said, "I have completed the works at my level. On paying rent for the victims to stay in a rented house, the state government is yet to issue an order."

MP Prathap Simha asked the members to bring the issue to the notice of District In-charge Minister Sa Ra Mahesh and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

"There is no secrecy in rehabilitation facilities for the flood victims. All the works are carried out in a transparent manner. As per the guidelines of SDRF/NDRF, the roads have been repaired and compensation has been distributed. There is no shortage of funds. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will lay the foundation for the houses for victims on December 7," informed the DC.

Appacchu Ranjan said, "Temporary restoration works on the state and national highway has been completed. The permanent work on the road needs to be taken up."

The MP said that the rural interior roads are in a deplorable condition. The work on rural roads should be taken up within a week.

He said that the Centre has released Rs 546 crore to Karnataka. He demanded that Kodagu Reconstruction Authority should be constituted by the state government.

Member Subhash Somaiah said, "There are connecting roads to reach estate houses, in second Monnangeri and Kalooru in the district. They should be repaired immediately."
