Gold worth Rs 57.14L seized at MIA

The Customs officers of Mangalore International Airport registered a case against a youth for smuggling gold worth Rs 57.14 lakh.

According to officials, Ismail Ahamad Kallar from Kasargod arrived at the Mangalore International Airport (MIA) from Dubai by Spicejet flight No SG146 on Friday. The gold was smuggled in powder form mixed with solid gum concealed in his undergarments and also in the form of crude chains. The seized gold weighed 1.23 kgs worth Rs 57,14,940.

The team, led by Dr Kapil Gade, Deputy Commissioner, succeeded in nabbing the smuggler. The surveillance and interception was executed by Shrikanth K, Nagesh Kumar, Naveen, all Superintendent rank officers.
