Kodagu registers 72.14 pass percentage in PU

Students from Kodagu district have fared execeptionally well in the PUC examination. Out of the 4,731 students who appeared for the examination, 3,413 students passed thereby bagging 72.14 per cent for the district.

PU Board Deputy Director S Sathish Kumar said that last year the district achieved 73.1 per cent result, which means there has been a slight dip in the percentage this year. But this has not brought any difference in the rank of Kodagu district in the State. Last year also, the district stood fourth and even this year it enjoys the same position.

Girls rule

This year girls have performed far better than boys in the PUC examinations. Out of 2,953 girls who appeared for the examination, 2,113 girls have passed thereby attaining 71.55 per cent results. Out of 2,751 boys who wrote the examination 1,561 have passed thereby recording 56.74 per cent result.

What is commendable this year is the performance of the rural students. They have performed on par with the students from urban areas. As many as 2,965 students appeared for the examination in urban areas of which 2,139 students passed. In rural areas, 1,766 students appeared for the examination of which 1,274 students passed. Both have achieved 72.1 per cent result.

Commerce students

This year commerce students have outshined the science and arts students. Of the 1,758 stdents, 1,399 students have passed from commerce stream, threby registering 79.5 per cent result.

Of the 731 students who appeared for the examination from science strem, 531 students passed thereby bagging 72. 6 per cent. In the arts stream, 2,242 students have appeared for the examinations and 1,483 students have passed with 66.1 per cent.

Grades

In the district, 133 students have passed with distinction, 1,676 students passed with first class marks, 1,105 students passed with second class marks and 822 students passed with third class marks.

Toppers

P K Asha from Government Pre University College Ponnampete bagged 543 marks in Arts stream. B K Kavya from Vigneshwara Pre University College Shanivarasanthe bagged 526 marks, followed by H G Pavithra from Vigneshwara Pre University College Sahanivarasanthe at 523 marks. Mohommad Sharief  from Sampaje PU College bagged 515 marks and U R Sandesh from Sampaje Pre University College bagged 514 marks.

In Commerce section, Akshatha B Shetty from St Michael Pre University College Madikeri bagged 569 marks. George Verghese from St Annamma Pre University College, Virajpet, bagged 563 marks. T E Beena from St Michael Pre University College, Madikeri, bagged 562 marks. Fathima Afreen from St Annamma Pre University College, Virajpet, bagged 560 marks and K B Suchitha from Cauvery PU College, Shanivarasanthe, scored 560 marks.

In Science stream, Pranava Alva from Coorg PU College Gonikoppa bagged 576 marks, B Niveditha, M D Somanna and Karthik Iyanna from Vidyanikethan PU College, Gonikoppa, bagged 570, 563 and 562 marks respectively. Rohith R Somani from Coorg PU College, Gonikoppa, bagged 559 marks.

Cent per cent

Virajpet St Annamma PU College and Gonikoppa Coorg PU College have bagged 100 per cent results. All the students who appeared for Commerce and Science examinations have passed.

Science department of Gonikoppa Lions PU College, Commerce department of Murnadu Maruti PU College, Commerce department of Maragodu Bharathi PU College, Science department of Murnadu PU College and Arts department of Madikeri St Joseph PU College have bagged 100 per cent results.
