As the term of Deerghakeshi Shivanna and Rajamma Rudraiah has ended, they have vacated their seat of the president and vice president respectively.

In the backdrop of the High Court’s stay order against announcing reservation for the president and vice presidents’ position in all ZPs except Kolar and Chikkaballapur, the actual election has been postponed in Kodagu too.

As per Section 179 of Panchayat Raj Act, the Chairman of the Social Justice Standing Committee can act as the president if the president- vice president of a local body used to be absent or their term is over.

Under this provision, Raja Rao has taken the charge. He will continue in the post until elections are conducted for that post.

Except ZP former president H S Ashok, the president post aspirant A LokeshKumar, nobody else was present when Raja Rao took the charge. MLC S G Medappa, BJP district president Sunil Subramani, Madikeri Urban Development Authority Chairman A K Palaksha, members Manumuttappa, Lokeshwari Gopal congratulated the new in-charge president. Since Deerghakeshi Shivanna was to Mysore for an urgent programme, she was not present to hand over the power. CEO A S Ramachandrappa handed over the power instead. Deputy Secretary Basavarajappa and others were  present.
