Mangalore diocese, CBCI to build 1,000 houses in flood-hit regions

Speaking to mediapersons at the Bishop’s House here on Friday, the Bishop said that the Christian community in the Diocese will provide facilities for the rehabilitation of flood-hit families in Raichur, Bellary, Bijapur and Gulbarga districts. Special prayers will be offered at all churches in the Diocese and thereby fund will be raised for the rehabilitation of flood victims, he said.

Special arrangements have been made to collect clothes, foodgrains, medicines, utensils, school books and other necessary items from the devotees in order to distribute it among needy people in the flood-hit districts. The collection centre opened at the Bishop’s House will function till October 20, he said adding that people can contribute towards the relief fund and donate materials at the centre.

Teams of volunteers have already been sent to serve in flood-hit regions, he said adding that medical teams will also be deployed through the diocese.

The Bishop said that those NRIs, who belong to Mangalore Diocese, can contribute towards the ‘Diocese of Mangalore - Flood Relief Fund’ through account number 2222660510190001 of the Mangalore branch of Catholic Cyrian Bank.

Diocese PRO Fr William Menezes, CODP Director Fr Onil D’Souza, Vicar General Fr Denis Prabhu, community leaders Fr Francis Almeida, Roy Castelino, Marcel Monteiro and Ivan D’Souza were present.
