“It is our duty to donate money to provide relief to the people of North Karnataka who are suffering from rain and flood,” said MLA D S Suresh.

Convening an all party meeting at the Taluk Panchayat Hall here, he said that more fund will be collected from the donors in the taluk and later it will be distributed to needy in North Karnataka. Former MLA S M Nagaraj suggested that people should donate foodgrains instead of clothes. BJP leader N Manjunath said that the amount collected for the flood relief should be distributed through the Deputy Commissioner.

Meanwhile, Town Municipality member T J Gopikumar suggested that the taluk should take initiative to open a gruel centre at any flood hit villages in the state.

Congress leader T V Shivashankarappa said that more money could be collected only because of the hard work of citizens of the taluk. A total of Rs 53,000 collected from the taluk has been handed over to the Tahsildar on the occasion.
