Rains lash Kodagu

Holidays for schools, colleges today

Incessant rainfall continued to lash across Kodagu district on Friday. With the fear of flood, the district administration has declared holidays for schools, colleges and anganwadi centres on Saturday.

Madikeri, Napoklu, Sampaje, Bhagamandala, Virajpet, Hudikeri, Srimangala, Ponnampet, Ammathi, Balele, Somwarpet, Shanivarasanthe, Shanthalli, and Kodlipete has received good rainfall.

With gusty wind, the temperature has dipped in the district. On the other hand, farmers are facing threat of loss of crops.

Houses have been partially collapsed on Madikeri road, Tyagaraj Colony, Kannanda Baane. A house belonging to Janakamma was damaged when a tree fell on it at Makkandoor.
Coffee trees in two acre land were damaged when a stream started overflowing at Aigoor village.

The district has received an average of 52.43 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.
It was 22.38 mm rainfall during the corresponding period last year. The district has received an average of 2,112.87 mm rainfall since Januray. It was 848.49 mm rainfall during the corresponding period last year.

Rainfall received in hoblis are as follows: Madikeri kasaba—61 mm, Napoklu—41.2 mm, Sampaje—50.8 mm, Bhagamandala—115.8 mm, Virajpet—49.4 mm, Hudikerei—58.6 mm, Srimangala—42.2 mm, Ponnampet—52 mm, Shanthalli—116.2 mm, and Kodlipete—53 mm.
