There is a need to safeguard the hillocks, cool weather and greenery in Kodagu district, said Ramachandrapura Mutt Seer Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami.

Speaking at a religious meeting organised at Muliya Layout in Madikeri on Saturday, he said, “Kodagu is a sacred land where river Cauvery flows. The nature in the district should be conserved. There is a need to take up eco-friendly developmental works in the district.”

He called upon the people to not pollute rivers. There is no alternative to river and water. There is a need to maintain purity of water. About 98% of the River Ganga is polluted, he added.
The seer said that with the decrease in the number of cattle, children have failed to get pure milk and ghee to eat. He also lamented over the destruction of water bodies in Bengaluru.
