Sports hostel will come up by March next year, says minister

Rs 50 lakh has already been allotted for the construction

He was speaking after launching the works on the hostel taken up a cost a Rs 1 crore here on Thursday.

The works on the construction of the hostel should have begun earlier but due to the model code of conduct during the election it was delayed, expressed Goolihatti who said that the works was launched with complete co-operation of all the MLAs in Kolar district.
Rs 50 lakh has already been allotted and remaining amount will also be allotted shortly, Goolihatti added.

Football and Basketball will be promoted in the district, expressed Goolihatti who said that Land Army Corporation has been directed to complete the works by March.
Goolihatti cautioned that grants returned unutilised can’t be claimed again.

Due to the lack of staff only a in-charge deputy director has been appointed to the Youth Services and Sports Department in the district, noted Goolihatti who assured to appoint a deputy director shortly.

No personalities

None of the sports personalities or sportspersons who represent the district or the officials from various sports organisations attended the programme as the publicity to the programme was limited.

Instead school children from Suvarna School in the vicinity were brought into the  programme.

The single stored sports hostel will come up on 480 sqmts. The ground will house library, dining hall, kitchen, store room, two offices and wearhouse where sports item would be kept.

The first floor will house 18 rooms for the sportspersons
Zilla Panchayat CEO G V Rangarao, Zilla Panchayat member Balaji Chennaiah,  In-charge Deputy Commissioner N Shivaraj, City Municipal Council Vice-President V K Rajesh and senior journalist K Prahald Rao were present on the occasion.
