State-level science Congress from Friday

The Science Congress is being jointly organised by Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat, National Committee for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) and Mysore Vijnana Kendra.

Srimathi Hariprasad, convener and trustee of Mysore Science Congress told reporters on Wednesday that about 300 groups of students from primary and high school from across State will take part in the science congress, displaying the models they have prepared at the exhibition, held as part of the meet.

The exhibition would be held in separate categories for the urban and rural students and under junior and senior sections for children aged between 10-14 years and 14-17 years respectively.

The objective of science congress is to provide a platform for the students to showcase their talents in basic science through simple Science experiments. It also aims to promote urge for basic science and research among the students. The theme of the Congress being hosted in city is “land resources - use it for sustainable development and protect it for future”. Student groups will come out with experiments showcasing effective utilisation of land in the Congress, she said.

Prof C G Havaldar, academic convener for the science congress said the meeting aims to inculcate a liking for science experiments in the minds of students and help them prepare to be researchers of future.

About 1200 students from all over the State are likely to take part in the Congress, he informed. S A Ramdas, Minister for Medical Education and Incharge of District S A Ramdas would inaugurate the meet. J R Lakshamana Rao, Science writer, G Ravindra, Director of NCERT will be chief guest.

Thrimathastha meet

The Karnataka Brahmana Elder’s Citizens Forum is organising various programmes as part of the Senior Citizens’ conference at Vyasaraja Mutt at Krishnamurthypuram between Feb 11 and Feb 13.

Founder president of the forum, B R Nataraj Jois told reporters that the first day of the meet will host senior citizens’ conference of Thrimathastha Brahmanas.

The meeting would discuss various issues and challenges concerning the senior citizens and ways of meeting them effectively. On the occasion of Sri Madhwacharya’s Jayanthutsava, 1008th Sri Vidyamanohara Theertha Pada Swamiji of Sosale Vyasraja mutt will deliver a lecture. The third day of the event will have Sri Ilai Alwar Swamiji of Melukote Vangipura mutt gracing the Shasthyabdhi celebrations of senior citizens. Dr Bhanu Prakash Sharma and Aralakatte Shanmukha Swamiji will grace the occasion.
