<p>Offering shramadana, these students picked plastic wastes like bottles, plates etc from Gaddige to Abbey falls and spread awareness among people about ill affects of using plastic.<br /><br />Kodagu District Administration, Department Backward Community and Minority Welfare organised the jatha which was inaugurated by Town Municipal Council President P D Ponnappa, who said that conserving the environment is the duty of every individual. <br /><br />“Plastic is a bane in a way and hence everyone should join hands in eradicating plastic. It is sad that it has become an integral part of our lives and we have reached a situation where we cannot do without it. Ban on plastic is a must keeping the safety of environment in mind,” he said.<br /><br />Ponnappa urged the people to keep the city clean by reducing usage of plastic and by not dumping plastic here and there.<br /><br />Inmates of two BCM Boys’ hostels took part in the programme and collected plastic waste from Gaddige to Abbey falls and handed it over to K Nidugane Gram Panchayat and Town Municipal Council.<br /><br />Commissioner L Srikanth Rao, Backward Community and Minorities Welfare Department District Officer H G Prabhakar, Taluk Officer Kavitha, Hostel wardons were present on the occasion.</p>
