Students take out jatha against plastic

Offering shramadana, these students picked plastic wastes like bottles, plates etc from Gaddige to Abbey falls and spread awareness among people about ill affects of using plastic.

Kodagu District Administration, Department Backward Community and Minority Welfare organised the jatha which was inaugurated by Town Municipal Council President P D Ponnappa, who said that conserving the environment is the duty of every individual.

“Plastic is a bane in a way and hence everyone should join hands in eradicating plastic. It is sad that it has become an integral part of our lives and we have reached a situation where we cannot do without it. Ban on plastic is a must keeping the safety of environment in mind,” he said.

Ponnappa urged the people to keep the city clean by reducing usage of plastic and by not dumping plastic here and there.

Inmates of two BCM Boys’ hostels took part in the programme and collected plastic waste from Gaddige to Abbey falls and handed it over to K Nidugane Gram Panchayat and Town Municipal Council.

Commissioner L Srikanth Rao, Backward Community and Minorities Welfare Department District Officer H G Prabhakar, Taluk Officer Kavitha, Hostel wardons were present on the occasion.
