Youth paint Mallur village green; 2,000 sapplings planted

Trees planted as part of an environment awareness programme

The planting of saplings and the plastic eradication programme had been organised by the Mallur Gram Panchayat, the ‘Namma Muttur’ institution and a private company of Bangalore.
As many as 2,000 saplings of tamarind, ‘nerale,’ ‘honge,’ and neem were planted in Mallur village. Awareness was created among the people about the need to protect and nurture the saplings. The people were apprised about the dangers of using plastics and water conservation.

They were also told about the loss to the environment due to axing trees and how planting saplings will help the future generations. Cloth bags were distributed to every home as an alternative to plastic bags.

About 100 employees of the private firm took part in the planting of saplings and creating awareness among the people against plastics and about the judicious use of water.
On the occasion, the Gram Panchayat distributed biscuits, chocolates, pencils, colour pencils, erasers, sharpeners, geometry boxes and other stationery to 200 school students in Mallur village.

 A short film on environment conservation, judicious use of water and the need to reduce the use of plastic was screened for the school children in the evening.

Usha Shetty, the convenor of ‘Namma Muttur’, the family members of late Sanjaydas Gupta, the founder of ‘Namma Muttur’, tahsildar Mallikarjuna, Circle Inspector Ramesh, Sub Inspector Jagadish, Gram Panchayat president Jayamma Muninagappa, vice president Nishant and others were present on the occasion.
