ZP to make 25,000 rural youth self-dependent

Financial help up to ` one lakh to be provided through banks

With an objective to make rural youth of the district self-dependent, the Zilla Panchayat will provide training to 25,000 youth in vocational skills and self-employment under Rajeev Gandhi Chaitanya Yojane from the current year.

Addressing a press meet, here, on Tuesday, ZP Chief Executive Officer K H Narasimhamurthy said, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has proposed the programme in the Budget.

 Accordingly, 40 youths are selected under the project from every Gram Panchayat, giving priority to women. The beneficiaries will be selected through gram sabhas. 

All Gram Panchayats have been involved and they have been asked to submit the list of beneficiaries before December 10.

Qualification

Those from 18 to 35 years of age, with a minimum qualification of 8th standard, residing under the respective gram panchayat, are eligible for the scheme. 

Reservation policy will be applied while selecting candidates. 

Selected candidates should compulsorily participate in the training, he said.

Training

There is a goal to provide training to 5,000 youths every year and to train 25,000 people in the next five years. Training will be agriculture-based and also in other fields. 

Financial help, up to Rs one lakh, will be provided through banks in addition to an assistance of Rs 10,000. But, to avail the loans, at least five beneficiaries should begin self-employment activities, he explained.

Training will be provided in nursery, seed production, duck rearing, horticulture, making plates using arecanut leaves, fodder manufacturing, animal husbandry, fisheries, television repair and others, he said.

ZP Deputy Secretary Munirajappa, chief programme officer K B Prabhuswamy, Siddalingaswamy and others were present.
