As election betting is reported at several places across the district with lakhs of rupees at stake, the district police have formed a team to check the gambling.

Mandya witnessed a high-stakes battle between A Sumalatha, wife of actor-turned-politician the late M H Ambareesh and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s son K Nikhil.

While Sumalatha is an ndependentI candidate, Nikhil is the JD(S)-Congress nominee. There was a high voltage campaigning by both the candidates and they received an overwhelming response from the people during their electioneering.

Following the elections, the people have allegedly indulged in gambling. Apart from money, people are betting their agriculture lands, cattle, vehicles, equipment, etc.

Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraj has formed a team, led by the District Crime Branch (DCB) inspector. He has directed all sub-inspectors across the district to check gambling.

According to the SP, it is difficult to control or identify the people, if an individual is involved in betting. "But, organised gambling will be cracked without difficulty. The gamblers will be arrested and all police are on high alert," said the SP.
