KSOU opposes Mysore university's plans

 “We are against any conventional universities offering distance education in State,” Rangappa said at an interaction organised by Mysore District Journalists Association here on Monday.

UoM V-C V G Talawar in an academic council meeting held recently had said the university had plans to restart distance education courses which were stopped some time ago, owing to resistance by KSOU. It had even created a stand off of sorts between the then V-Cs Sudha Rao of KSOU and Shashidhar Prasad of UoM.

Stating that the approach to distance education adopted by conventional universities is different from universities offering distance education, he said. The UoM did not have necessary infrastructure to meet the needs of students opting for distance education courses. Besides, University of Mysore does not have the nod of Distance Education Council, an authority for universities offering distance education courses.
