Life normal in North Karnataka

Normal life hasn't been affected even as several organisations staged protests in different parts of North Karnataka accusing the state government of ignoring the development of North Karnataka region.

A forum comprising various farmers and student organisations had called for a bandh on August 2 demanding separate statehood for North Karnataka. The forum had said that the bandh would be observed in all 13 districts of the region. However, the bandh call was withdrawn at the eleventh hour. It was decided to stage protests.

In Hubballi, leaders of various organisations staged a protest at Rani Chennamma Circle. They raised slogans against the state government and urged the government to implement schemes for the development of N-K region.

In Haveri, there was a protest at Hosamani Siddappa Circle. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.

Similar protests were reported from Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Belagavi and Gadag towns.

The bus operations was as usual, while shops and business establishments were open.

The police had deployed additional forces at important locations to ensure peace and law and order situation.
